Former US President Bill Clinton went to war in Bosnia in 1993 to stop former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in his ethnic cleansing crusade against his own people. How come the same ethnic cleansing crusade is happening as we speak in the Dominican Republic, the backyard of the United States, by the racist Dominican government and the international community is acting as though it is happening on a different planet? We are seeing nothing but seemingly indifference from the international community.
This issue is not a Haitian issue, it is an international issue, an issue displaying the blatant violation of the basic rights of a group of people, some or most of whom Dominicans of Haitian descent. They are being unjustly stripped of their Dominican nationality simply because of their Haitian heritage.
On behalf of my Haitian people, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the people, especially Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City, who, in spite of all, one way or the other, came out to unequivocally condemn this alarming situation. So on June 17, 2015, Mayor de Blasio posted on the official website of the City of New York a statement in condemnation of the decision by the racist Dominican government to illegally deport tens of thousands of Dominicans of Haitian descent, in total violation of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognizing one’s nationality as a basic and irrefutable right.
